I just acquired a Sinclair 2068 and wondered if any of the software on tape
or cartridges for other Sinclair computers like the 1000 would work on the
2086.
Thanks

HI SIR, YOU JUST CAN USE TIMEX SINCLAIR 2068 SOFTWARE OR TIMEX CUMPUTER
2068/OR SOME OF TC 2048 (MADE IN PORTUGAL) SOFT ON YOUR TS2068.and a little
part of zx spectrum soft no much just a 14% but can change to 85% if you buy
a zx spectrum emulator cartridge, can search on www.ebay.com for it.
TS1000 , TS1500 , ZX81, ZX80 DON'T GONNE WORK ON YOUR TS 2068.

Jim, the 1000/ZX81 software will not load on the 2068, though with
minor modifications a printed program listing for the 1000 can be
keyed directly into the 2068 since most of the BASIC commands are
common to the two. The LOAD/SAVE operational parameters are
completely different for the two, as are character set assignments
and system variables. However, back when the computers were
available, one outfit offered a tape called "UPLOAD2000" that used
machine code to translate 1000 programs on tape to the 2068. I had a
copy but never could get it to work; it would crash every time.
Of course, ZX Spectrum software is a different issue. Especially
with a Spectrum emulator, much of this can be used with the 2068,
since the 2068 was the (greatly modified) US version of the ZX
Spectrum. Hope this helps.--Ed

Hi,
No, the TS2068 can only use TS-TC2068 cartridges because of the diferent
System ROMs.

Ed,
You mentioned the program "UPLOAD2000" which I also used. I did have some
minor problems with it initially, but found it very useful for converting
some of my Timex 1000 BASIC programs to TS/TC 2068 compatibility (of course
it could not convert machine code). I wonder if you were using the wave
shaper device that was supposed to be plugged in on the earphone side of the
cassette recorder when using the UPLOAD2000 program. I suppect it was to
make the wave shape more square or cleaner. Anyway, I did like the program
and it eleminated a lot of duplicate typing.
Concerning running Spectrum programs on the TS 2068, I used the Spectrum
emulator that was sold by Zebra and found it great for running all of my
Spectrum software. There was another emulator that I purchased but don't
remember the name of it. It plugged into the bus on the back of the
computer and had a switch to change between Spectrum and 2068 modes. I
didn't use it because I couldn't get my Spectrum Micro Drives to work with
it and the twister board at the same time.
A fellow named Jack Dohany who supplied software and some hardware for Timex
users sent me his version of the Spectrum emulator and it was perfect for
me. The Spectrum ROM or Timex ROM was enabled with a very small switch
located on the back or side of the computer. The Spectrum ROM was wired
with pullup resisters that were used in some if not all Spectrum computers.
These pullup resisters were actually required for some Spectrum programs to
work correctly. If the same programs were run on computers without the
pullup resisters, the programs would fail.
For those users that had the AERCO Floppy disk interface, it was possible to
copy the Spectrum rom into the first 16k of DOCK bank memory and run most of
the Spectrum software without actually having the Spectrum emulator
installed. Unfortunately, the AERCO floppy disk drives could no longer be
used unless the Spectrum and AERCO ROM code were modified to work with the
AERCO disk interface, which I did and spent considerable time and effort
doing. However, you could still load and save tape programs with the RAM
resident Spectrum code.

Keith, I found early on that the wave shaper device (amplifier) was
essential for loading most tapes into the T/S 2068, so of course I
used it with UPLOAD2000. Mine, which I still use, was a cheapie
Radio Shack unit. I no longer have the UPLOAD2000 tape and don't
know what happened to it, but I seem to recall that it would load
normally, give a prompt to begin loading the T/S 1000 tape, then--
during the process of loading the 1000 tape--it would crash. This
happened every time, so after several attempts I gave up.

Yep, same here. I'm not sure it _never_ worked, but I know it did crash an
awful lot.
I always thought of it as a too-faithful simulation of the TS1000
experience. ;-)

I seem to remember having the same experience with the
software also. It would get about half way loading a
program and then crash. I think I still have it so if
whoever is looking for it is still interested please
send me an email and I will take a look for it.

Dear Keith,
I´looking for some twister board diagram. I´ve the
IF One and Microdrives, ZX emulator, but I need this
IF in order to use them with my TS.
In the past ( I was younger.... ) I use the TS with
Microdrives....but I lost the IF.
Could you help me?
Thanks in advance.
