Timex/Sinclair Book Want List
February 22, 2008
Adam Trionfo

I’m looking for quite a few books for the Timex Computers (mostly for the T/S 2068-- but some are just general Timex/Sinclair books). I don't collect hardware anymore, but I do collect books. This list is in alphabetical order- not in order of preference. Some books have brief comments in brackets following the title and author. If you have any of these, or even know about them, let me know.

1) 30 music programs for Timex Sinclair 2068 by Oleg D Jefimenko [I wonder, do these songs take advantage of the 2068’s music chip?]

2) A Kid's First Book to the Timex Sinclair 2068 by Ed Hoornaert

3) Beepers: 21 Electronics Projects for the Timex/Sinclair 1000 (A Byte book) by Stephen Adams and Gordon Rockmaker [By the sound of this, it might be really simple stuff]

4) Bogglers: 22 Smart Games Programs (2k to 16k in Timex/Sinclair Basic) by Graham Charlton

5) Control Things With Your Timex-Sinclair by Robert L. Swarts [Not sure if this is for the 2068 or 1000- anybody know?]

6) Creating Arcade Games on Timex-Sinclair by Seth McEvoy

7) Creating Arcade Games on Your Timex Sinclair 2068 by Haywood [Anyone know the full author’s name for this title?]

8) Creative game for the Timex/Sinclair 2068 by Robert Maunder

9) Games for Your Timex-Sinclair 2000 (Dell Computer Games Series) by Peter Shaw

10) Introducing Timex Sinclair 2000 Machine Code by Ian Robertson Sinclair

11) Mastering Machine Code on Your Timex Sinclair by Toni Baker [Is this for the 2068?]

12) Mathematical Problem-Solving With the Microcomputer: Timex Sinclair 1000 Version by Mark A. Spikell and Stephen Snover [Math can be cool, and I like to see what can be done with it. Heck, even simple, slow drawing spirals on classic machines still give me a thrill!]

13) Programming the Timex Sinclair 2000 by S. M. Gee

14) The Timex Sinclair 2068 Explored by Tim Hartnell

15) The Timex/Sinclair 2000 and How to Get the Most from It by Ian Robertson Sinclair

16) The Timex/Sinclair 2000 Book of Games by Mike James

17) The Timex/Sinclair User's Encyclopedia (Ts1000, Ts2068, and Zx81) by Gary Phillips and James C. March

18) The working Timex-Sinclair 2068 by David Lawrence

19) Timex Sinclair 2068 personal color computer: Technical reference manual by V. C Corcoran

20) Timex Sinclair 2068 Pocketbook by Trevor Toms

21) Timex/Sinclair 2068 Series Programming Guide by Inc. Soft Sync.

22) Timex/Sinclair 2068, 1500, and 1000 machine language programming and interfacing by Joseph J Carr [I’ve heard bad things about this author in other Z80 circles]

23) Translating Programs into Timex Sinclair 1500/1000 Basic by Allen H. Wolach [This would be a handy reference!]

24) Z80 Machine Code for Humans by Alan Tootill [Out of all the books on the list I want this book most]

It’s a long list-- I know! Hopefully some of you will have a couple of these.

Thanks.

Adam

Since I made the list I have been able to order five of the books using Amazon's
used books. All but four of them were about five bucks each. The last one, the
Technical Manual, was $15. Also, I bought three books NOT on my list from a
member of this group (thanks!). Still, if anyone has any of these books that I'm
still looking.

This is for the 1000. It instructs how to do hardware interfacing,
converting the signals at the ports into power that can drive relays,
switches and other electronics in the real world.

 this for the 2068?]

Also for the ZX81/1000. It is a tutorial to bring you into writing
 machine code and assembly language.
Sorry guys, but that book is a load of crap. For the command DI she refers :
'No, this is not a Welsh word, buts its what you get when you send tiny little blips into one of the Z80's pins...' need I go on ?
there are similar un educated references to EI, RETI, RETN and the INT and NMI pins.

Basically, she doesn't have a clue.

If you really want to know how to program the Z80, look no further than Rodnay Zaks brilliant book Programming the Z80 and Zilog's Technical Manual.
all the best, Allelectrix

> 14) The Timex Sinclair 2068 Explored by Tim Hartnell

This is a well written book about writing BASIC programs for the 2068.
Although in BASIC, there are some quite playable games. One is a
Pacman clone, another is an asteroids clone, while another has you
orbiting a star and firing at the right moment to get away. My
favorite was the slot machine. I thought it paid out too easily, so I
altered the random variable a bit to make it harder to win, but pay
 out more when you did.

Tim shows you how to use User Defined Graphics UDG to customize your
 programs.

This is one that I ordered. I don't have a 1000, but somehow I know that
I'll end up with one eventually.

If you really want to know how to program the Z80, [...] Zilog's Technical Manual.

How is this different from the User Manual (here):

http://www.zilog.com/docs/z80/um0080.pdf

Is this the Zilog's Technical Manual that you are referring to:

(or use the full URL:)

14) The Timex Sinclair 2068 Explored by Tim Hartnell

This is a well written book about writing BASIC programs for the 2068.

I'll have to keep a close eye out for this one.

Thanks very much for the comments! You should post them to Amazon.com.
Comments like this are VERY helpful when purchasing older/unknown/unseen
books.
