Hi Richard,
You mean "Etch-Ah-Sketch" on the cover of issue #18?
Copy? No problem. I'll scan and send it email in the next day or so.
Rod
BTW...welcome back.

Subject: [ts2068] Blast From the Past
Hello all, I am a new member that had at TS2068 as my first computer. I remember the day I bought it I took it home and took it all a part to see how it worked.
I got to programming with it and found the TS Horizons magazine was published in my hometown so went to talk to owner.
I am Richard Watts and was featured on the April 1986 cover of the magazine for a drawing program I wrote.
Since then I have moved a lot and over the years lost my (several) copies of the magazine and was wondering if anyone had it?
I would love a scanned/PDF copy if it is available.
Also either a good emulator or the 2068 or possibly will look to buy one for nostalgia purposes.
Thanks
Richard

Welcome to the comunity man!
It seems other people are helping you with the magazine, so I'll pitch in with the emulator, the best I have found is "Eighty one", it emulates the whole line of sinclair computers, including the TS, you really can't go wrong with it. To: [email]

I worked with Richard Duncan for some time at his magazine, going to the 1986 Midwest computer fest covering the show with him. I think I got paid with a 2040 printer if I remember right.
Thanks Again

Welcome Richard.
Rod has made two TS gear handouts, maybe he still has a TS-2068. Ask him, I think he will not bother with the question.
To Rod: I'm interested in the magazines too. Could you upload them somewhere?
Best regards,
Eduardo.

BTW in case I forget Thanks a MILLION.
When I found this group (and a picture of the cover online) I was freaking out, my wife hasn't seen me this happy in a few years. I had always told her about the "front cover" but I don't think she ever believed me. I was 15-16 at that time and did it out of fun.
When she saw the cover, she said I should have kept programming, and told me to read the Steve Jobs story for inspiration.
Thanks Again.

I will second Marvio. Eighty-One is the easiest and most accurate "straight" Sinclair emulator I have tried.

Nice to have you here.
Wish I had more time to scan newsletters like I was doing one year ago. Sadly I have higher priorities at the moment. I'm hoping I won't have to wait for retirement to be able to do it. I'm still 30 years away from it!

Was just looking at the etch-a-sketch article very interesting. Love the Elric sword and graphics. Then saw the weird ad right after it about abortions. The more things change the more they stay the same.

Yeah Michael Moorcock is one of my favorite authors. I had read most of his books by that time and wanted to immortalize the sword in Sinclair graphics.
I had not got to see the magazine before it went to print, I did some work for Mr. Duncan for a printer at the time.
I mentioned that after I received my copy and I mentioned this to him, don't remember what he said though.

I am also working on a .doc version of [the newsletter] that would be total
OCR so you could cut and paste from it.

While I adore OCR'ed documents, please also continue to keep the completely
non-OCR'ed document available. OCR introduces errors, no matter how careful
everyone is during the conversion.
For instance, I wish that I had a non-OCR version of the TS 2068 tech
manual, it had not only non-obvious errors, but there are so many errors
that it defeated the usefulness of the search function. That being said,
SOME version is better than NO version.
It's always cool to see "new" stuff! Thanks.

Thanks to everyone for your comments and suggestions, and a Special Thanks
to Ron for sending me the scans of the issue I was so looking foward to see.
I posted it to the files section under newsletters. (
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ts2068/files/Newsletters/TS%20Horizons/ ) for
anyone that would like it. I am also working on a .doc version of it that
would be total OCR so you could cut and paste from it.
The PDF is somewhat OCR'ed but there are probably a lot of errors because of
small print, I am enlarging the jpg's with a new program i am trying to
generate a better picture to OCR. once I get it done, I will post the .doc
version of it.
I remember when Richard D. (editor) was doing the magazine, belive it or not
he was using a Mac to do the publishing. when I saw that the first time I
was like come on, why nit use the TS 2068 for it? that way you could say
totally done on Timex PC.
Don't remember what he said about that.
Thanks again for all the post.

Been a while since I ocr'ed a old document with dot matrix/thermal print outs, and forgot how hard it could be. I started and was amazed at all the unrecognized letters. going to be a job in it's self.
but will trudge along and see how it comes out. I have ( a lot ) extra time on my hands right now unfortunately.
Rob, do you have the exact dimensions of the the TS Horizon magazine?
Thanks
