I'd recommend the low cost kits for the Apple I and Kim-1 reproductions here:

I did know about the Apple I kit, but not the KIM-I. I've never been interested in the Apple I kit, as it seems like a very strange concept since there is an Apple II which is so easy to obtain... but I've never been much of an Apple fan. It's a neat computer, but I think of it in terms of using them at school with green-screen monitors. But, oh, Spy Hunter or Conan or even LOGO. I did have fun on the Apple II... just not enough to make me want an Apple I.

As for the KIM-I kit: that is pretty neat. I like this idea. I didn't even know that there was a Tiny BASIC written for that machine (there is a screenshot of it running in HyperTerminal).

That's TWO 6502 single-board computer kits. Is there a Z-80 single-board computer in production? I've heard of the Southern Cross, but that's not available anymore. I've also heard of the SX-I (which I THINK is a clone of the Southern Cross-- or maybe it's the other way around). The SX-I is also discontinued, though here is a link to a place that had it in stock at one time:

I'm not actually in the market for a Z80 kit computer, but I don't understand why one doesn't exist. Zilog, after all, does still make the Z80 CPU (in many flavors). There is even a 40 pin DIP version still available. Check them out here:

In a way, Zilog does have single-board computers for their Z80... but it is for the newer Ez80 (don't know much about this). Here a link to these "evaluation boards:"

The price on these is steep: $400.

So, is there a REAL Z80 single-board computer in production (that one could just order right now)?

Adam
