Does it support the AY chip when you do this 2048 ROM swap? Or just the beeper? I do chip music, and I found a 2068 at a thrift shop a few years back, it boots up just fine. I joined the group with the hope of one day finding a way to do chip music with it.

It becomes a Spectrum, so if you mean from BASIC, then no. You'd just need
to make a switch to swap out either the original ROM or the 2048 ROM.

I can't promise anything at the moment. But, I am trying to lay my hands on a Zebra Systems Spectrum Emulator Cartridge Board from one of the former techs.

If I can get the artwork reproduced in a modern program, there's a chance I can get a run of boards made and you can make yourself a Spectrum Emulator Cartridge.

You would have to either obtain a Spectrum ROM, or burn an EPROM with the ROM image.

I meant if say I used a spectrum tracker that supports the AY. I have seen people use a spectrum with an AY interface and a tracker that supports it. But I don't know the particulars. I assume the trackers that support the AY interface probably have specific code to address it. So even with the spectrum ROM and a native AY chip I would probably need to get the AY interface. Time to hit up Google.

I don't have an EPROM burner anyway, so I couldn't try it until I get one.

OK, I understand what you are saying now. The AY in the 2068 is not the
same configuration as the one in the Spectrum, so it will not work. I
don't know the specifics of it- it could just be different addressing, or
it could be a different interface.

AY is located at different ports. You can use AY directly from Basic using IN/OUT instructions.
Any software designed for a ZX Spectrum+AY must be patched to work in a TS-2068. If the software is not protected must be a simple task with a hex editor using search and replace.

There was a guy at youtube who was working on a rom that re-mapped all ports on the TS, not sure if he ever finished the project, once I get home I'll look him up

Thanks Don - very interesting. I’ll update the emulation in the Fuse emulator to match your findings.

I have added support for TS-2068's AY to the +3e ROM source code. Modded ROM image can be used in Don's 128K board instead of the original.I have re-calculated sound frequency tables too because AY runs at different clock speed.Basic SOUND command will be heard as good as in a ZX Spectrum. All programs that use ROM routines to make sounds will run fine.
I've sent a rom image and the source code to Don some time ago.

Eduardo,

Would you mind uploading your modified ROM to the group's files section?

 Thanks!
