1. BBS Software...

Louis Florit · Fri, 28 Dec 2001 11:42

Hi everyone, hope the holidays are treating you nicely. I just ran across
a website that is detailing the history of BBS's; they have a section on
BBS softwares that ran on many different machines. Their Sinclair/TS
section is empty, so I was hoping to fill in some.

I know of the following from previous posts to the lists:

CASBoard
LKTerm
Oliger Disk Drive BBS Program

These all ran on the TS2068.

Two requests:

Can those of you with back issues of the many rags that were published at
the time go through and see if you can find any other references to BBS
softwares that were for sale or available on *any* Sinclair computer (Even
the 1000) and then Email the notice to the list? Scans of the page would
be cool- I need the name, and an approximate date; perhaps a short
description that may accompany it as well.

If you have any copies of the software, on tape or otherwise, could you
try to convert it into a TAP file or otherwise so I could put it up on the
timexsinclair.org website?

Thanks!

Hi group, I saw this on a Ebay auction and did not
know what to make of it. It is a Zebra Expansion
Interface, supposedly for the TS2068? Pondered making
a bid on it, but I do not even use the majority of
stuff i have already!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2020809507

Is there going to be a TS presence at the Vintage
computer festival this year in San Jose? I have gone
the last 2 years, and in fact I arrived last year
before getting the email that they had cancelled it
due to 9/11. I still have mixed feelings about that
but would consider if there was going to be a Timex
computer contingent.

Have not been messing around with my computers much
lately, but I had been playing a game of "Batty"
tonight on my TS2068 with Spectrum ROM and twister
board for the Spectrum joystick adapter. There is a
wealth of Spectrum games/files on the WOS site (World
of Spectrum), which are easly loaded into a emulator,
or in my case I use the "Taper" utility to load them
straight into my 2068 through the PC's sound card.

happy computing,
Luke Perry

I don't know anything about the device, but it appears to be for sale (not
auction) at the following URL:

It's a "super twister". Allows connection of an FDD or FDD-3000
(Spectrum-bussed) plus has the pass-through port for adding other
peripherals (TS2068-bussed).

Unfortunately I won't make it due to the fact that I've moved back to
south florida. Most of my Sinclair stuff is stashed in storage for the
time being, probably there until I get a place and re-establish the lab.

I hope that there is at least a few people to show up.

If you've not been to the vintage computing festival, its a great get
together. They host it in San Jose, CA; you can get more information from
www.vintage.org

Ok, I thought it might have something to do with the
FDD system cause there is a manual for same included
in the auction. I do not have a FDD system :( ...but
I would love to obtain one. I was once offered a
chance to buy one from a fellow in Portugal, but he
was asking like $400 or so. Yikes!

I wonder if anyone is still using one of those with a
TS or Spectrum? I know they used a 3" disk as opposed
to a 3 1/2 or 5 1/4". That would be cool to see one
in operation. That is why it would be cool if one day
the TS community could organize and have an exhibit at
one of the Vintage Computer Festivals in Cali, so we
could show off all of our rare and obscure equipment!

Hey Jack, is this 'Super Twister' something that came with a FDD
system, or does it let you use any old PC IDE floppy drive with it?

There are some instructions I got from somewhere once upon a time and
mirrored on the timex sinclair 2068 website:
http://www.timexsinclair.org/2068/code/remakes.html

That'd be kind cool to pull off.

Any idea if the person who won the auction can take some snaps of it,
so I could add it to the hardware list?

The Super had 2 connectors: one was made to allow connecting
the FDD (or FDD-3000) which was compatible with the
Spectrum, the other allowed use of TS2068 peripherals.
These were made by Zebra Systems, Inc., and sold with the
FDD's they imported fromTMX Portugal so they could be used
with the 2068.

Have no idea who won the auction. It went for WAY TOO MUCH
money anyway (IMHO)!

I used it recently, however with 3.5" drive. Now I'm
trying to put HDD there...

I've also developed a cable that allows to connect a PC
or Amiga (to the parallel port) through Timex Interface
M-397 (the one needed for Timex FDD 3000).

I've also expanded the Timex Interface M-397 to 8kB RAM
and 32kB ROM. And I put my operating system there
(ZXVGS).

> That would be cool to see one in operation.
However, I live in Poland. ;)
