1. Introduction and Request for help

Luca Brigatti, MD · Fri, 4 Nov 2011 10:36:

Hello everyone,

I found this group thanks to the Blog of Bill Loguidice
(http://www.armchairarcade.com/neo/node/991#comment-23578) and I'm glad I
did.

I am an old ZX Spectrum fan, my second computer (the first being the ZX 81)
which I got as a Christmas present when I was a kid.

I learned about computer and to program with the ZX Spectrum (back then I
even published some article in local magazines which helped with some pocket
money).

I am now living in the U.S.A. and my interest for the Spectrum has been
rekindled when I found out about the TS2068. I bought one as soon as I could
from e-bay (and a couple of TS 1000, while I was at that) and rigged a power
supply and a television cable (did not come with them) and now I am
programming away again happy as a clam.

And now the request for help.

I am aware that the TS2068, while being a better machine, has some major
compatibility issues with the ZX Spectrum that prevents it from running most
of the software now available on-line.

I am also aware that there is (was) a compatibility cartridge that is now
rarer than hen's teeth (I am quoting this forum :).

The aforementioned blog pointed me to Jarek Adamski website
(http://yarek.com/basket/?h=umcb) which looks like a real treasure cave!

I tried to order his cartridge but without much luck. I e-mailed Jarek a
couple of times but got no reply. Probably Jarek is very busy or maybe not
making the cartridge anymore.

I'd like to know what is the best option to obtain such a cartridge or to
make the TS2068 backward compatible in general.

In desperate cases, I have some electronic skills (not much) and I may even
try to make my own if I find some schematics and instructions "For Dummies".
Don't have an EPROM programmer though, which may be a bit of a problem.

Thanks in advance to those who can help.

Take care

Luca
