Hello.
:-)
I recently dug my 2068 and my ZX81 out of the attic, and have been
having a great time refamiliarizing myself with them because there's a
ZX81 game contest in progress that I'd like to participate in, just
for fun. They were my first computers, and what started my career
(server admin).
Boy, when I saw that stack of 2068's in the gallery of the Johnson
Computer Collection I almost fell out of my chair. I've never even
seen two 2068's together before! I've learned more in the last week or
so than I ever knew back in the days I was using these machines regularly.
DISK DRIVES? THEY HAD DISK DRIVES???
<sigh>
Thanks for letting me join!

Bonjour Doug,
Ho boy! Am I happy to read that you will participate in the ZX81
contest. There are at least two contests going on: One
from "www.ts1000.us" and one from "speccyspoiler".
If you like the ZX81, try "http://www.zx-team.de/andre". You will
be able to see the best pictures made with the ZX81 (or Timex
T/S1000), to read the best (old) newsletters made with and only the
ZX81 and to download the most recent UNBELIEVABLE programs for the
ZX81.
Also, to play the ZX81 games on your PC, there is on the web site
a listing of the best emulators available.
Have fun, ANDRE***

P.S. The ZX81 has also disk drives.

the stack is in bins..there are approximately 40 to 50
of the 2068's...i have yet to hook them up and test
them, because businmes is slow. There are two or 3 in
original boxes complete..and there is a lot of stuff
that I dont know what it is, but sinclair related...I
thank EricJohnson's widow for letting me dispose of it
for her...This will all happen soon as I can get
digital pics..and test out the 2068's ..then there
will be a post on this forum of the inventory.
thanks,
Neil

FREE TS2068 BOOKS
I have cases of one or two TS2068 books in my storage area that are in new
condition. If whoever is selling the TS2068 computers mentioned below,
would like some books to go with them, they should call me. I'll donate
them for free - you just need to pay the UPS shipping. I think I also have
extra TS2068 power supplies, TV/Video Switches, RF Cables, and other items
I'd love to recycle.
ALSO ON THE ISSUE OF RECYCLING
I have a few thousand ZX81s from the Sinclair Repair center. If anyone
knows the best way to reclaim the metals ( back in the early 80's they
actually used significant amounts of gold in chips and plating ), a good
scrap dealer, or even someone who can efficiently pull and test ULA chips -
since people ask me for these chips, please contact me with your wisdom. I
expect to sell my last 150-200 zx81 kits by the end of the year and at that
time would like to stop paying for my storage facility.
I have never had the time and patience to sell some of the books and TS1000
software I have, cause I can't economically process ebay orders for amounts
less than $20.00. If anyone is retired with a lot of time and patience, and
in need of a little extra money, I have many dozens of cases ( 144 pieces
per case ) of TS1000 and ZX81 software titles, and thousands of TS1000
books.
ZX81 / TS1000 TECH NEEDED
Also, if there is someone with technical skills, I have a case of 38
pristine ZX81 computers that I would like modified to convert the RF output
to buffered composite video per instructions I have that can get it done
right within the RF Modulator housing. I am looking to hire a good TS1000
/ZX81 tech for the job. If you know anyone who might be interested, please
have them contact me. There is no rush on this job.

I have already been using the resources at all the sites you mention,
but I was not aware of the second contest. Thanks!
So how does one go about obtaining these disk drives? Vast amounts of
cold hard cash, I suppose... :-)
Cheers,
Doug Simmons
