1. New Timex Interview

cheveron · Fri, 13 Aug 2010 11:45

Hi,

Since I've been banned from WoS and am therefore leaving the 8-bit scene I will not be finishing the 68 page fanzine I was working on. However, the reason I started it in the first place was because I couldn't find a buyer for an article that Bruno and I worked on together. Therefore I've uploaded the article to the Files area of the group. I hope you enjoy it.

or just look for Circe.pdf in the files section

Regards

I don't know any details of your banning, Andrew or the circumstances around
any of this, so if you wish to elaborate, I'd love to hear it. Also, do I
have your permission to run the excerpt article on Armchair Arcade?

Hi Bill,

I can't get a straight answer on why I was banned. It was either the fact that I responded to provocation on the forum by having a rant in an IRC channel, or I was trying to get the person who kept provoking me permanently banned (which I wasn't), or... well anyway. The messages of support I've been getting are now into double figures. One of the forum mods and the person who got me banned are now themselves banned from the speccy and spin IRC channels. I think it's clear to most people that the mods made a mistake. But the whole thing left a rather sour taste and I don't feel like going on with the Speccy stuff any more.

I'm not leaving the Timex community though. I'll still be here and happy to help. I just won't be starting any new projects. I'll upload all the stuff I have to the files area over the next weeks. There might be some duplication of existing files, but I'm fairly sure the ones I've got are the 'perfect' versions. I've used .TAP instead of .TZX because to the best of my knowledge there were no special loaders on the Timex, and using .TAP makes it easier to get the software on to real machines.

You have my permission to run the Timex article but you'll need Bruno's permission as well. I'm sure he'll say yes, but he's not in the group at the moment owing to some problems with his Yahoo! account. I'll email him and ask him if it's ok. I didn't put my name on the magazine version because I was writing the whole thing and having By Andrew Owen on everything looked stupid. Providing Bruno says yes I would appreciate it if you could include my name in the byline.

Bruno made initial contact and set up the interview, I co-wrote the original list of questions, Bruno asked follow up questions, and I took the material and constructed it into an article. I was trying to sell it, but sadly couldn't find a taker. RetroGamer magazine doesn't care about the Timex apparently. So I started doing the fanzine as a place to publish it. I'll post back after I've emailed Bruno.

Cheers!

-Andrew
