1. New .TZX of Timex utilities
zxbruno · Wed, 10 Dec 2008 03:27
A few months ago I scanned and uploaded a few books. In my most recent
trip to Portugal I found a few things and I thought I would share
them, before they're lost forever. One of those things is the software
for the Timex RS232. The other one is called 'COPY' but I haven't had
a chance to figure out what it's for. If any of these need translation
please let me know.

Those are the 2 cassettes that I sent to my friends in Spain for
preservation. Soon you'll be able to see the inside of a TS1510
cartridge player and you'll learn how to build your own cartridges. :)
For those wondering who helps me... Jose Manuel runs the 'trastero'
section at Speccy.org, and Jose Leandro analyzes hardware, creates
eagle files and explains how it works or how to build it. I've sent
them Sinclair and Timex material and I can vouch for their
responsability and dedication to the Sinclair scene. I also sent them
several TS2068 cartridges and they were all preserved as .DCK files
for all to enjoy.

Forgot to mention that if you need to know more about the RS232,
Johnny Red has provided valuable information on his website:
http://members.fortunecity.com/johnnyred/tmxtechrs232.html
It was meant to be used with a printer, but I don't see a reason why
it couldn't be used as a means of communicating with a PC. :)

COPY? Didn't know this.
I do know is "Zebra Copy" a program to copy tape software to FDD.
Some years ago I made a program that "converted" .TAP files into FDD.
It was a little complicated but it worked as I used a 3 box FDD with
a 3,5" DSDD disk drive.
-Copied the. TAP to FDD disk using TOSDOS.
-Read a block (CODE) from .TAP to RAM
-Save the block to disk
Loader was converted by hand (I don't remember exactly how now).
I did convert some games and it worked like a charm.
Of course I was limited to 32K (?) CODE block size because I used the
computer RAM, not the FDD RAM.

I can take pictures of it.
I've created 2 pages on the gallery on my website.
http://timex.comboios.info/gallery.html
One for TS1500 and another for TT3000.
Updated some little info on TS1500 and TT3000 page.
Now I don't know if I would consider FDD/FDD3000 and TT3000 to be
peripherals as they are "incomplete" computers.

Don't use that copy of my website. Is very old and I loose the
password (and I never tried to get it back...).
Update all your links to

Maybe your friends can check if Timex RS232 routines can do more than
drive a printer.
Maybe they can also make it 2068 compatible as it is only usable in
"2048 mode" as you can read in the user manual I translated:
http://timex.comboios.info/tmxtechrs232.html
Here you must have:
-TC2068 (*), TC2048 or ZX Spectrum
-TV ou composite monitor
-Timex 2080 printer
-RS232 cable
-Tape recorder
-Tape with RS232 software
(*) by using TC2068, your must use the Spectrum emulator cartridge or
the Time Word word processor cartridge.
