1. Regarding the TS2050 and other Sinclair modems

I recently acquired a TS2050 and I'm about to buy the manual. I was
also asked if I would be interested in buying the Byte-Back modem, and
I already have the Prism VTX-5000. Is there a way to use any of these
modems nowadays, or have them all become an obsolete collection item?

Hi!
I'm curious, are these modems that can be used on the TS2068, or just
serial port jobbies from the PC era?
Modems are nice to have as a collectible, but not really much use
outside of strange situations.

I have used my Westbridge modem (which I believe is the same as the
TS2050) with my ZX81 quite often. There was a program for the zx81
for it.

Hi!
The TS2050 was designed for the TS2068, and the Byte-back modem for
the TS1000. Not sure if you could use the former on the TS1000 or the
latter in the TS2068. The Prism VTX-5000 was designed for the 16K/48K
ZX Spectrum, but some people have used them on Amstrad Sinclair models
as well. I think they used a fixer.

Yes, that is my recollection as well. One side of the tape had the TS2068 software and the other side had the TS 1000 software.

That would be cool put a TS2068 on the net, I know that there's a commodore 64 web server out on the net,

there a chance I could get the software?
But my original question remains. Can we still use any of these modems
nowadays? Can we use any of the current ISPs? If not, can we at least
have communication between 2 TS2068s via a regular phone/pots line?
Thanks.

Exactly. And a few days ago it was announced in Spain that the Amstrad
CPC users have their own ethernet interface too. They even have a browser!
I found the info about what was done for the C64:
http://dunkels.com/adam/tfe/pictures.html
That is why I've been talking about this subject for a long time.
Does anyone know if the old modem interfaces can be used, or if a new
ethernet interface is the way to go?
uIP is the smallest TCP/IP stack available for 8-bit computers, and
there are ethernet cards that can be prepared for Sinclair machiens
and cost less than $30 dollars. I have all the information, but
unfortunately I haven't found anyone who has the knowledge or the
desire to start such project.
All the major 8-bit computers from the 80's have their own ethernet
interface and software for it nowadays. MSX, Amstrad CPC, C64. We need
to find a Sinclair enthusiast who doesn't think 'it's not worth the
effort'.

My old ISP allowed connection via a *nix shell. I successfully
connected using Byte-Back modems and a ZX81. I was able to issue
*nix commands, so I could read my email with the ZX81. I suppose
you could use Lynx to surf the Web but I never tried it since I
was just testing the modems and didn't have the time to really
play around.
Check with your ISP to see if your service includes a shell
account. If not, there may be providers in your area.

If the modems would work, sure, you could use it to do a very slow
file transfer. I guess the better question is 'why would you'.
There are schematics i transcribed to convert a 2050 into a serial
port for the TS2068 with some additional components. I thought about
getting BBS software running on a TS2068, and hooking it up to the
internet through a host PC.
Don't know if I'll ever get around to making that project work.

Last year I recieved two 2068's from another list member.
I only need one, and being unemployed now... I need to raise cash.
This is a working TS-2068 only. I don't have a power supply for it. I
can include a video cable (RCA - RCA).
$20.00 shipped in the Continental U.S.
Send me a PM if interested.
