Group,
There are 4 working Spectrum emulators available. These were
designed by Alvin and put together by yours truly.
They have the capability of adding a 32K RAM chip but currently do
not have one as I ran out. Come with complete instructions,
written by Alvin, that include schematics. These emulators are
the version that need to be activated by an OUT call, they do not
auto-boot into Spectrum mode.
For you hackers, there are also 3 boards that have problems of one
sort or another (meaning they are not working, yet) that I have
not had time to trouble-shoot. They do not have emulator or RAM
chips installed, but are available if someone would like to get
them going.

I have a simple need. I am pretty much a non-techie person, but I
would like to be able to run Spectrum programs on my 2068. Can
anyone sell me a hardware Speccie emulator? Or is there any other
way that I can run Spectrum programs on my 2068?

Hello....
There are many "Spectrum" program that do run on a TS 2068 without
modification. (The reverse of this is also true.) You might want to try
loading the programs you have on an unmodified TS 2068 first before
searching for an emulator chip.
Hope this helps somewhat.

Jack,
I'd be interested in picking up one of those Spectrum
emulator boards. I also have a question. I have a
"cartridge" file of the Zebra Systems OS64 cartridge.
I played with it a little bit with the FUSE emulator
on my regular desktop computer. It's kinda cool,
fulfilling the promise of a 64-column display and all
that. I don't know what else it does; I've never been
able to find any documentation on it.
I did some business with Stewart Newfeld of Zebra
Systems recently, winning a couple of books on an eBay
auction. I inquired about the OS64 cartridge; none
were available. When I asked whether he would mind if
I managed to get the OS64 data back on a cartridge,
Stewart said he didn't care (actually, the response
was "I don't care if you clone it. Good luck.").
Anyway, do you know of any easy way to take the data
stored in a Dock file (i.e., OS_64.DCK), burn that
back to an eprom and actually have it work?
Thanks!

You can burn it to an EPROM and replace
the Spectrum emulator EPROM on the cartridge.
I believe Jack has an EPROM burner for his 2068.
On my own board, I used a 32k EPROM and attached
a switch to select which half of the 16K sat
in the 0-16k area. I had both OS64 and a
Spectrum ROM selectable by switch.
The big project being discussed will also be
able to do Spectrum emulation and other
so-far-not-done things like emulate the
various Spectrum joysticks with the built-in
2068 joysticks and redirect AY sound to the
internal 2068 sound chip. It should also be
able to run OS64, possibly with a few minor
modifications to the code (OS64 expects to
sit in the cartridge dock when in fact it
will be in an expansion bank, in all
likelihood, though I don't see harm in
running the cartridge signals to the
FPGA and leaving the option open that
the project can support cartridge images).
However, the NVRAM cartridge I spoke of a while
back would allow dozens of cartridge images
to be stored, selectable when the computer
powers up if a set of "menu keys" are pressed.
I still intend to go ahead with this at some
point as I know, especially initially, not
everyone will want to put up the $ for a bigger
project. The big project's board might be
finished soon enough, but the project will
probably not be in an advanced state for a
year or more. Although the chips and whatnot
will be in place, the hardware configuration
of the FPGA will take time (you program
the hardware in FPGAs as if you program software)
and the actual software drivers will take time
as well. In a year or so I expect we'll have 2068s
connected to the internet and then I would expect
everyone will want one :-)

If I need TS 2068, I turn on first one
If I need ZX-Spec, I turn on second one. 99 % soft.

Having re-read this post I see that I left out some information.
These are cartridge emulators that work in the DOCK port. They
will work with the TS2068 and should also work with the TC2068 and
UK2086.
They do not auto-boot into Spectrum mode so can be left in the
DOCK at all times if so desired, changing to Spectrum mode with
the "OUT 244,3" command and back to TS mode using "OUT 244,0".
There were only 20 of these particular cartridge emulators made.
Still 3 working ones left ... and the 3 that need repair(s).
