Adam Trionfo · Thu, 7 Nov 2013 09:08:
The recent ZX Spectrum Emulator cart for the T/S 2068 emulates the original base Spectrum 48K version with no special features, right? Which version of the real hardware is this considered?
Also, what are some good easy-to-obtain books for this version of the Spectrum? I'm talking about books for all levels of users: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Viewing some pdfs would be fine, but I would MUCH prefer to actually order the books used, so books that are semi-easy to get are a definite plus. Also, I'm aware that these books are VERY likely to have to be bought from England.
BTW-- how many people emulate the Spectrum on their T/S 2068?

I really wanted to, but when I did my research I found that the joystick ports wouldn't work and the sound wouldn't work, requiring more mods, in the end I just bought a damn spectrum! :)

Yes its a damn spectrum, but remember these damn ZXspectrum has tons and tons of games.....google it!
And 80% of them have a better playability than the c64 games(remember c64 has more memory 64kb vs 48 from speccy, and suposly a better microprocessor), and with releases until last moth, yes games released in 2013...
For the ts2068(a spectrum clone called enhanced, that unfortunate had no sucsess att all) you don't even have up to 40-50 games...Not even 5 of these games are listed in the 100 best games list from ZxSpectrum, so if you really hate the ZXSpectrum you probably dont like the ts2068 ether...and belive me, you are missing a lot of fun!
Don't get me wrong, I love my TS2068. But add in the twister board(with the ZXspectrum cartridge) with a divIde and a RamTurbo joystick interface(kemptone and Sinclair joysticks types) make a big difference! You can even make a upgrade to make it work like a spectrum128...its hard, but possible!
Remember the tc2068 and tc2048(or uk2068 and uk2048, variations from the ts2068, in portugal and poland) already have the zxspectrum bus, they don't need the twister board, they can plug all spetrum hardware directly....
Upgrade your TS2068, and enjoy all the Spectrum fun!

Uhhh dude, I think you got me wrong there, what I wanted from the beginning was a spectrum, I only got the 2068 because I'm in the USA and the Speccy was never released here, so I have the PAL>NTSC "problem", and I thought it would be easier to get something that was natively meant to work in the NTSC format, little did I know that the 2068 really was a completely different computer in the end, and that the mods necessary to make it work like a Speccy were much more involved then a simple PAL.NTSC mod, so I bit the bullet, bought a 128 and did the mods for the color space... The "damn" in my sentence was more of a expression of frustration with myself for not doing the research up front

Hmm. My experience with flatscreen monitors and old game system is rather poor. They work wonderful for the new systems though. However, my experience has been with TVs, NOT monitors. I suppose there is a huge difference?
Just the mention of 15Khz brings back the days of the Amiga. Not sure why ONLY the Amiga, but they made a connection in my head that's quite strong.

Hi Oscar,
I'm interested in the 128 upgrade.
Do you have any documentation?
Other upgrade can be remap the sound chip to listen to the original and ZX ports. I have one with this upgrade and it works with games that uses the AY-8912 in zx 48K mode.

Eduardo.

The "damn" in my sentence was more of a expression of frustration with myself for not doing the research up front

I don't have it in hand right now.
But I know is a velvesoft project...
Here in Brazil they made a little production of it and name it "TKmem128"(only not working funcion is ram paging) and a friend(Flavio Matsumoto, with a blog called 'cantinho do tk') from the tk90x(brazillian clone from zxspectrum) group from yahoo is making game adaptations from lots of programs original only 128kb spectrum for use with these interface(many originaly 128k games have only ay support as diferrence from the 48kb version).
These friend also make game adaptations to use the spectrum(tk90x) wiyh a disk interface called beta disk48(used mostly here in brazil) in ussr(now Russia) they used a lot of the beta disk128(little diference from the 48kb version) interface.

Where can a Spectrum board emulator for TS2068 be purchased? Guess a joystick as well.

These days it is a rare item(ebay from spain an portugal is easier to find than ebay.com from usa)..... You need a good guy(technican) to make one(zxspectrum48kb emul cartridge, and the twister board as well) for you!
Or, even learn eletronics basic and do it yourself....the files to build(pcb, schematics and parts) them exist on the web.
I have found a 'Twister Board' pcb here in these same group, ask for it!
To build it is extreamly easy just 4 or 5 components solder in with a soldering iron and its done, you have a zxspectrum bus to conect any ZXspectrum(48kb) interface.....
The joystick interface for ZXSpectrum you can find in ebay.co.uk, as I said the best choice is "Ram turbo"(that have the 'sinclair' from interface2 and 'kempstone' padrons in just one interface, 90% of games uses these standards)!
Also exist a 'cursor' or 'protek' standard but is needed in less than 10% of the games...the keys with arrows in the keyboard(5=left,6,7,8=right and 0=fire).

Oscar
