I've bought the book 'Powerful projects for your Timex Sinclair' and
started scanning it at 300dpi. It's going to take a while (my previous
scanning effort took me months to complete), but once it's done I'll
convert it to pdf and upload it here and to w.o.s. Wilko from w.o.s.
has taught me how to use a plugin in Acrobat to make all pages the
same size. I followed some of the suggestions given here and had the
binding removed for $2 at Staples before starting scanning it.

Awesome. That book is one of the more interesting T/S 2068 books
that I've picked up. Some of the pages may require grayscale images
rather than B&W because of the photographs.

Scanning is BORING and REPETITIVE work. Take your time.

What plug-in is this? This could be quite useful!

Makes scanning MUCH easier, doesn't it?

Making a book into a usable electronic book is usually more trouble than people realize. Just scanning in a book DOES work, but it usually makes the book hard to use on a computer.

I scanned in a rare computer book once called "The TV Games Computer, An Exciting Introduction to Microprocessors." I went through the trouble of bookmarking it using Acrobat. It probably took me an extra couple of hours, but the results turned out REALLY good. You can check out the book here:

http://www.ballyalley.com/misc_docs/tv_computer_book.html

This isn't a direct download to the book, but the book IS on this page. The download is 10MB, so you'll need a fast connection to check it out. You probably won't be interested in what the book is about (unless the Signetics 2650 CPU is to your liking), but I just wanted to give an example of a bookmarked book.

My suggestion is to bookmark the book that you're scanning in. It really will make a difference to any reader that uses it.

And yourself, later.

Also, if you are redistributing, take a week or two
and fix the OCR, too!

In general, they do what you want, unless you want consistency.

These scans are going to be image files only, right? You won't
be OCR'ing them? That adds much trouble and, to me, isn't
worth it.
