Central Oregon would be the best place for a meeting.

The member list for this group is quite large, so I rather ask here.
Does anyone have an idea of how many TS2068 active users are there? By
active I mean someone who's still interested in this computer and
wants to emulate it or use it once in a while, people who read the
messages here once in a while, not once per year. If we had a list of
these members, we could figure out which state is the closest to all
of us, and maybe figure out a place to meet next year. When was the
last TS2068 meeting anyway? Each one of us would take some TS2068s,
some hardware, a digital camera... :) It could be a chance to finally
meet some of the most important people from the old days.

I live in Connecticut I would be great to see a show of the old stuff. I think we would maybe have to combine it with some other old school groups to make it viable though.

How are you proposing we sound off -- publicly via this list or should
there be a sign up somewhere?
I agree with Mark Scheck, btw. You/we'll have to partner with some
other groups for viability.
Oh, and it's going to end up in Chicago, you know.

The messages are mailed to me, so I read them as they are

(which mails postings just once per day), but I sometimes feel out of the loop
when I do this.

I’m in New Mexico.
I bet that we’ll find that there isn’t any place that will work best for
everyone. I’ve thought about thing sort
of thing for the Bally Astrocade. I
think that the best idea would be to tag along on a much bigger gathering. If not, then perhaps some similar computers could
have there own gathering. How about a
Z80 CPU Party? Or we could all take a
trip to England
for a Spectrum gathering! ;-)

I wasn’t around for the Timex good old days, but I’d like to
see something like this happen. I’d like
to see rare hardware, but also I’d like to play the best games for the various
Timex computers (even if they are the most common on the system!).
I’ve been to a few of the Classic Gaming Expo’s in Las Vegas and they are
quite fun. My favorite part is probably
listening to the fellas who helped to shape the industry. I know that it takes a LOT
of work to pull off something like this.
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?
Adam

I jive in Portland Oregon area so somewhere on the west coast would be
the most practical for me. Teaming up with some of the other "vintage
computer" users groups does make the most sense. I would really enjoy
meeting face-to-face with some of the folks in the "TS2068 faithful"

Why don't we poll the East coast people and the West coast people. Then we can see from there. I have no problem flying out to the west for a cool weekend of really cool geeky 8 bit fun.

I'm in SC. My Sinclairs are in storage but I have a Spectrum 48K, a
TS2068, a QL, and a PC8300 (ZX81 clone). In the 32 years since I
first touched a computer, no machine has been more fun than the
Spectrum.

The last meeting I went to was in Los Angeles in 1990. It was at a
mall off of I-10. I recall Ed Grey was there. He sold TS items, plus
Spectravideo, and had a BBS.
Another meeting would be in order. I still have hardware, boxed up though.

I live in San Jose, CA, and work in Cupertino; please don't feel like
there aren't others in the silicon valley area that know about the
sinclair - its just that, if you were in tech when Sinclair was coming
up, AND you lived here in the San Francisco bay area, you were likely
to be in line with locals: Xerox, HP, Sun or Apple.
There have been some vintage computer festivals held over the years,
they were very interesting - I once saw core memory for some 60s
mainframe which looked pretty neat, and I also saw a computing module
for the Apolo spacecraft. At a few of the festivals there was a
representative ts1000 or two. It'd be neat to see everyone I've
corresponded with over the years at a gathering... :)

Wow, I'm amazed at the amount of replies. This means it should really
be done. A face-to-face instead of the internet! I'm not sure how it
could be done, because I've never organized any event. Did people used
to rent places and every participant covered part of the cost? Did

This is such a big country... no wonder it has been difficult to keep
the TS community going strong... We're only a few but we're so far away!
Someone mentioned a list of people near to each coast. What if we

locations? If one big meeting isn't possible maybe 3 or 4 are.
About meetings with non-Sinclair people, I'm not sure. Did it work
before? It reminds me of what happened to the Chicago Area TS users
group. I received a letter saying that they were now part of the CoCo
users group, but the newsletter has nothing about Sinclair computers.
I live in Santa Ana (birthplace of the Microace), near L.A. Last year
I was invited to present the Sinclair computers at the old computer
museum festival in Mountain View, CA, but I couldn't make it. At the
time I felt I would be the only one in California who knew what a
Sinclair computer was, and I felt depressed about it...
A meeting took place in L.A. back in 1990? I wish I was there! I drive
up to L.A. at least once per week, but I know for a fact the old user
groups are gone and the person who used to own a store with TS
material is on eBay now, selling what's left of it but really lacks
communication skills.
It almost looks like we have one TS user per state. That can't be right.

I'm fairly active with the OpenSolaris New York City User, we get corporations to let us use their space. Typically it's Sun of course but it's been at other places as well. Again I think it's to small for this list. But if we get the Atari, Commodore, TI, Tandy, and Timex people it would be a pretty cool event. I'm on the Commodore list and there's hardly anyone left. It would be amazing to even get 100 people at a old school event. We could have a contest what's the coolest thing you can do with your old school machine.

Although, apparently, that's the name of some console, probably trademarked.
