Hi and good day! I'm an avid fan of TS-2068 computer and I do owns a
real TS2068 fitted with AERCO disk controller, a printer port card, and
a RGB monitor so some time ago, I recently adcquired a surplus Westridge
/ TS 2050 modem and I'm also a electronic buff and I've been looking for
a schematic diagram of the modem itself so that I could check and
restores it's operation also learns how relay is controlled so that I
could write a program for it in mixed Z80 and BASIC code for it. If you
happens to have schematics of this modem, feel free to scan and send as
a file attachement so that I could work on it. Thank you very much in
advance!

Hi,
I'm sorry but I don't have such thing.
I think that Timex doesn't put her hands on the squematic since they didn't
really sell the modem.

I believe I have the schematic, but it's buried deep inside my TS2068
stash. I'll have to dig it out.

Stephen,
I have a boxed and complete TS-2050 here, but there is no diagram in the
manual. I do have quite a lot of other documentation that I can look through
and I'll certainly let you know if I find anything that may be useful to
you. In the interim, the only information I've seen online about it is
located in the peripherals section of the "parent" site of this mailing
list:
http://www.timexsinclair.org/
and at the "Timex Computer World" site maintained by Johhny Red:
http://timex.johnnyred.org/
Between them, I think they have pretty much everything covered. The
comp.sys.sinclair FAQ has brief specifications, but I can check the manual
(which also covers the M/Term software) and let you know any details that
may be missing.

Let me know if ya'll are unable to find the
schematic....I have a couple in my stash of Timex
stuff above the shop in boxes. I recently moved the
boxes and came across 3 or 4 surplus modem boards that
Ed Gray was selling years ago. Untested, unmodified,
without phone line attached , without ribbon connector
for backplane. I think the schematics are in the same
box. Why would anyone attempt to write new software
for that modem is beyond me.

P.S. hi to Johnny Red..

Oh! I do have one too! it has connector and all the stuff intact but I
had to replace a LED that are missing (probobly broken off) but I know
one side is postive and I needed the schmatics so that I can check the
modem completely to make sure it's in good use, if the phone line
section is bad, I'll plan to fully convert it to a single RS-232 board
with the phone cirecuitry removed without disabling the serial UART -- I
do not know exectly which circuits are part of the along section. I
believed I remembered seeing one of the schematics that appeared in one
of the copies of articles that covered this modem but I can't recalls
vaguely if I had it so my assumption it was lost.
I'll hang on as you the folks do the best to locate the correct
schematics and send it tome and few others who have those boards ::)

At one point in the early 80's I wrote an article on how to piggyback
another UART onto the back of the existing one on the 2050 modem and
add a serial port to modem. I seem to recall there was a 74LS138 on
the modem board and I picked up a new decoded address line and wired
that up to the new UART. It used a MAX-232 level converter chip to
take care of the signal levels. I believe the article was published
in Time Designs Magazine. I recall getting letters asking if I could
write (for free)a machine code driver for a XXXXXXX device that
someone wanted to use but had no documentation for.
It occurs to me that the 2050 board was a single sided layout and
should be simple to reverse engineer the decoding, which is what I
did in the first place. A $10 DMM and some downloaded datasheets
should make this a one hour task.

Stephen,
I have located a copy of this diagram. It was originally printed in the LIST
(Long Island Sinclair/Timex) Newsletter in February 1986. The diagram is of
the 'Timex 2050 Modem (without relay circuitry)'.
If you still need this, let me know and I'll forward a copy.
