1. TS 2068 Edge Connector Source / Advice for RGB Connection

Adam Trionfo · Fri, 4 Jan 2008 13:32:

I would like to make the RGB output for my TS 2068 a connector that I plug into the P1 port rather than an upgrade to the TS 2068 itself. This is so that I can use it with any TS 2068 system that I might get (though I only do have one now). Does anyone know where I might be able to get a connector that would work? I'll probably have to hack it to some extent to make it work. Alternately, I could get a dead Timex device with an edge connector already and then hack that off and use it. What device might work best for that? I was thinking the printer, but I think they are pretty rare.

In the end I want my converter to have a 23-pin connector so that I can just use my Amiga monitor cables (which are shielded). Or do you think there might be a way to make it a little more universal (as Amiga monitor cables are quite rare).

All feedback appreciated.

Adam

I can't find my 2068 hardware book, but I used to pick edge connectors up at Radio Shack, and dremel off what I didn't need.

I've heard of people salvaging ISA slots from old motherboards for the
purpose and cutting them to size...

I'd thought of that. You can also order edge connectors pretty cheaply. Too bad you can't order TS 2068 edge connectors! The only problem with hacking an edge connector (new or salvaged) is that I would have to figure-out a way to make the connector fit snugly and not move around. The 2068's edge connector is keyed-- would there be a way to ADD a key to a hacked connector?

You can download it here:

That's what I've been using for a reference. I'd like to buy the manual if someone has a spare.

How did you get the pins to line-up properly? Did you make a "key?"

You can usually push out a couple of connectors, and glue in a piece of plastic for the key. At least, that's what I did.

Now that you say that it makes perfect sense. The key is where pins A6 and B6 should be. I think that I'll try ordering some edge-connectors this week.

Thanks for the tip!

M. Emrah Oral · Mon, 7 Jan 2008 10:36:

I couldn't find a connector long enough for my RGB>SCART cable so my solution was to find a connector that is wide enough to go from the key slot to the far end of the socket. I cut one end of the socket. The side I did NOT cut actually goes inside the key slot. That's how I made sue that the pins line up perfectly, BUT since there is no "key feature" now, I have to pay attention to what side should face UP when inserting the plug. (See pics)
