1. TS2068 Keyboard Membrane Conductive Strip
Rich M · Wed, 25 Jun 2014 06:34
Good morning everyone,
Someone has recently asked me about a replacement for the short conductive strip which connects the motherboard on the TS2068 to the keyboard.
Looking at the pictures, it is a fairly straight forward item, similar to the tails on any keyboard membrane I currently sell - although it is 14 pins wide (I believe).
I could get some made, with the sale price of around £8 each, on the assumption that I get 50 made.
How much interest would there be in some of these?

Hi Rich,
The conductive strip is not like Spectrum's membranes. Each wire of the strip is a thin metal band adhered to the plastic. At the endings, there are strengthening plastics to make the strip more rigid to permit to be inserted in each socket.
I think it can be replaced with a strip like you are producing now.
I don't remember how much wires it have. I can take a look at one if you need.
If you decide to produce it, please make it longer. It is difficult to open or close the machine with the one that comes with the machine.
Regards,
Eduardo.

Rich - I would buy some of these, 5 or so sets. I recommend making them at least 30% longer than standard as they are almost too short.

Eduardo,
What you are describing sounds very much like the membrane tails on a Spectrum - the photo of one I have seen does not have any strengthening strips - email me a photo of yours please to rich AT rwapservices.co.uk and I will compare it with the photo I have here.
What length should it be? I have no idea how long it is currently!
I need to borrow one to send to the factory to base the replacement on - it does not need to be working (ie. it can be cracked).
However, I need to get some more interest in these first as two sales will not cover the costs of getting them made!

Hello Rich
I would be interested in 1 or 2, depends on the final price. Take care.
Cheers.
Richard

Rich,
Attached are two pictures corresponding to both sides of the strip.
Strip is 2.7 inches (68 mm) long.
Strengthening strips are 0.35 inches (9 mm) long.
It has 14 pins with .1 inch separation (same as spectrum's membrane tails)
Original strip is very short, making it 5 inches long will be much more comfortable to open and close the machine.
Regards,
Eduardo.
