Anyone that would part ways with one for a reasonable price? It's the
one machine I always wanted to get but wasn't available in my native
Greece. Now that I am in the US, I don't seem to be able to find one
at a decent price :-(

Try eBay. There are a couple listed at the moment. Prices vary, as do the condition of
the units.
Good luck!
Senen.

Thanks Senen but no luck there. The one has at least $100 reserve and the
other one... well it's going up to the sky. I wonder if people actually
use them if they buy them. I really dislike "collectors" for the sake of
collecting when it comes to vintage computers as they drive prices up for
the rest of us. I was trying to find a couple of US QLs to upgrade and use
myself in my QL/Speccy network I have at home. The prices were crazy ($300
for one etc). I managed to find 4 for $100 which I promptly gave away
(except the one I kept) for the price I got them -no markups here). I was
lucky on that one but I doubt if I will be lucky where a T/S, T/C 2068 is
concerned.

What's a reasonable price? I have an extra TS2068 that I'd let go for $100
plus shipping and handling, or we could meet somewhere for pickup (I live in
New Jersey). If interested, send me an e-mail. Thanks.

5. Got TWO TS2068s! Was: Want a TS/TC 2068 or TC2048

Hi Bill,
a reasonable price was around $35 - $40. I did manage to get actually two
for $81 (For some reason, not many bids on that particular auction.
Thank you for the offer though.

Now I wonder, anyone has details on how to convert the one to a Spectrum
SE? :-)
Even better, anyone has schematics on how to built a disk I/F for it?
Maybe the DivIDE would work?

http://www.yarek.pl/
To convert a TS2068 into a 60hz Spectrum SE you need to add the following:
TC2144 board. This is Jarek's own design. It gives Spectrum 128K compatibility but with 9
banks of 16K instead of the usual 8. This includes doubling the video RAM.
The AY chip needs to have its I/O modified so it is also visible at the ports used by the
Spectrum 128.
The EXROM is removed and 128K of RAM is added, connected to the EX and DOCK banks.
This will disable the cartridge port (no great loss - and a good place to put a CF-IDE
board). If you want to keep the cartridge port you'll need to add a means of overriding the
DOCK RAM.
You can still run TS2068 software using the TS2068 emulator which uses a modified
EXROM in the EX bank and a modified HOME rom in the DOCK bank. I'm working on
getting Zebra OS64 to function but no joy yet. It certainly should work without the
standard HOME ROM present, but there appear to be some teething issues.
Other mods like the NMI switch and the PROM on the AY are optional. You could add a
Kempston joystick port, but unlike my modified TC2048 you have the Timex joystick ports
so you can use software written to make use of them.

Thank you Andrew. As things stand now, I will modify one and keep the
other "stock". I will have to study this information and digest it a
bit (btw I cannot find your old Spectrum SE site anywhere). The edge
connector bit though won't be a problem as I have done it before for
the Zon-X custom adaptor for the Speccy that I designed. These two
effectively raise my Sinclair/Compatible computers (not items as I
have sometimes more of the same) to 10! (Spectrum+, T/S1000, ZX81,T/
S2068, QL, Z88, QXL, Q40, Aurora and Thor XVI). I only miss a 128K and
a Sam Coupé and I will be happy for all time :-).
An additional piece of information, seriously needed before I open up
the first T/S2068. Are the membranes similar to the 48K? (Does it even
HAVE a membrane?) As it stands now both keyboards work fine, but I'd
hate it if one was cracked and while opening the thing making it dead
:-)
Cheers,
Phoebus
