1. Westridge TS-2050 Modem

Does anyone know where I may find the specifications for the Timex /
Westridge 2050 Modem - I want to build a serial port that is compatible
with it. Also, does anyone know where I can obtain the cassette software
that came with this modem as well as the byte-back modem software/
Thanks - Rob

Hey Rob; I've got a copy of the instructions to convert a Westridge into a
serial device here:
http://www.timexsinclair.org/2068/code/WC2050SerialConversionHack/
However, I don't have the schematic for the modem itself. This would be a
nice addition to the website if anyone has it available.
I have the original software on tape, it did load once upon a time. I have
to make a trip to storage and could get it out for you if you like. I
don't have 'Byte-Back' however, but another aftermarket one. Can't
remmember its name now. I wonder if anyone has a .TAP of it available; I
never did get around to creating the TS2068 .TAP Archive I wanted...

I was looking at your site when the email came in. If I had the memory
map for the 2050 modem, I could develop a schematic for a compatible
serial port - obviously, the schematic would not be the same as the
2050, but would work the same. I just need some of the various software
to test it once completed. Perhaps someone can provide me a complete
memory map. Anyone having any information that might be useful in this
endeavor may email it to me as an attachment, if you wish. I can accept
attachments of any size (have received over 100Mb email attachments
recently). I plan to develop an expansion unit that will allow a 16-bit
ISA multi-IO card to be attached to the TS-2068, if there is any
interest in such a thing. This would give us 2 serial ports, parallel
port, joystick/MIDI port, IDE and Floppy controllers. Actually getting
software developed to drive the card will be the biggest obstacle. Also
plan to develop a 6809 co-processor card to allow the TS-2068 to run
OS-9 Level II and FLEX.
Later.. Rob

I'm pretty sure I have the schematic for the 2050, but it's currently packed
in one of many boxes awaiting a move to a new residence. I'll see if I can
dig it out.

I have a TAP of Smart Terminal program for TS2068 and TS2050 in my website.
Search it in the download pages.

Cool. How much do you think it would cost? And, would it have more
computing power than the 2068 itself? ;-)
I do like the idea, but the thing about adding modern capabilities to
outdated equipment is, it reaches a point of diminishing returns pretty
quickly. At some point, it probably makes more sense just to use an
emulator on a nice, fast, new system. (I'm not sure the 2068 is at that
point, given the current state of emulation; but the Spectrum is.)

Um, isn't that what CoCos are for?
I actually have a few CoCos, with 64K (or more) and disk drives, but I've
never run OS-9. I'd like to, but I can't find it anywhere.

Yep - I am developing the I/O Card interface to the CoCo first and will
then do the TS-2068 version. I don't know what it will cost as I
probably won't market it - It'll be a hobby project with the plans
available for anyone to build, unless there is someone who wants to
market the thing. I just like to build this stuff. I actually have
someone who wants to market the CoCo interface for me. Yes, CoCo's are
for Flex and OS-9 among other things. What I have in mind for the 2068
is a small 6809 computer with the TS-2068 acting as a terminal providing
the keyboard and display. Even tho' the 6809 is obsolete it is still
available cheaply for this project. Look around here
ftp://os9archive.rtsi.com/ for OS-9 disk images - they may be there but
I haven't looked. I just bought 3 TS-2068's and am anxious to build some
hardware for them....

I made the connection of ISA card, in 8-bit mode. The
16-bit mode is only need for HDD interface. And this is
much complicated to make it work.

In my idea the serial ports are at addresses #050..#057
(second #150..#157), pararell at #058..#05A. (The hight
byte is device unit.) The FDC is in ports #70..#7F.
For the IDE I have separate mutiplekser, so ports are
at addresses #B0..#B7, #BE, #BF. (The #B0..#B3 area is
reserved for the RTC.)
The patch for Warajevo makes secondary HDD available in
the same ports.

It looks like 8251 USART device, in ports #73 and #77, fixed
at 1200bps (well, you could connect the PC Mouse there).
However, it is in conflict with my idea of FDC (#77 port). :)

there seems to be a problem with the link for the
instructions to build the rs 232 seriel port from a
westridge modem board. Could you double check the link
please. It is exactly what I have been searching for,
those instructions, as I have at least three of the
Westridge boards. I do know someone with six or so of them.
