In emptying the warehouse of Zebra Systems, we uncovered the original

Betamax tapes of these two shows.

I posted them on YouTube for your enjoyment.

We also uncovered a load of books, tapes, and some TS-1000/1500/ ZX-81

Hardware.

We even found about 5 TS-1500 Computers that we'll be offering on eBay.

But for now, enjoy these:

Cool stuff.

The descriptions on the videos say "circa 1988", but they look more like
1984ish to me.

Excellent!!! Would love to watch more of these type of videos, if they
existed. I'm particularly interest in any rare hardware you may find.
Everything that I have that's considered rare is being sent to Spain
for analysis and documentation, so that other Sinclair users can have
a chance to build it.

Could be. It was so long ago. My memory is faulty. I remember the day they
came, but I can't remember what year. I worked for Zebra on and off from
about 1984 to 1988.

It could have been the summer of 1986. It was definitely the summer based on
the use of the fans.

That white TRS-80 Model IV I was typing on was the host of Zebra BBS. I was
adding an entry to the Phone Numbers page, it looks like.

That was using TBBS 2.0 software, which was nice stuff. In the IBM Port, you
could use two modems (COM1 and COM2) and host a two line BBS.

I have to say, I miss those days. The pretty young lady soldering was Nancy.
And in the other video, the lady with the black hair packing a box was
Linda, and the other blonde lady was Jane.

We had an atmosphere a lot like the show "Office" where we were constantly
joking and laughing and poking fun at each other and the customers. We had
some really funny customers (who we loved. We weren't laughing at them in an
evil way... They were just funny!).

Behind Stewart in the part where he's wearing the suit jacket, is an Eagle
II computer, which was a TurboXT IBM PC Clone. We did a lot of advertising
and such on that computer.

What isn't pictured opposite that was an IMSAI 8080 Box, upgraded to a Z-80
running CP/M 2.2 and dBase II that we ran the order entry system on. We
eventually ported that to an MS-DOS version of dBase II, and that was run on
a Televideo MS-DOS (Not IBM PC) clone.

The man interviewed, "John Sampson" was one of our more interesting
customers. If you ever see the Charles Bronson movies made in the late
1970's and 1980's, John did all the police calls used in the movies. That's
what he did for a living.

He had a TS-1000 loaded to the max with RAM Packs, Parallel Interface
connected to a Daisy Wheel Printer, Oliger (I think) disk system, Color
Graphics Interface, Word Processor Cartridge and tons of other stuff.
Stewart used to use a phrase "The tail wagging the dog", in this case it was
a very tiny dog with a huge tail. LOL!

He was a great guy, and it was great that he was there for both interviews.

Dick's Delicatessen seen in the first movie made the best sandwiches. Tom
(the guy laying out the printed circuit board, which I believe was the 2068
Voice Synthesizer) used to walk in and just say "I'll have an order of
Lunch", and they knew us so well they knew just what to give him.

Directly across the street from Dick's Deli, a few doors to the left of
Zebra, was Alpha Products. And just behind there the camera was positioned
to take that picture of Dick's was Colorware. About a half mile down Jamaica
Avenue was Spectrum Projects, which was big in the Tandy Coco world.

No yet, but here's some of the stuff (from the top of my head)...

  Microace
Zebra Systems Koala Pad / Joystick / A/D Interface
  A few TS2068 cartridges
  Development board for the TS1000
  TS1000 backplane extension
Super Data-save filter for the TS1000
  Timex RS232 interface software cassette
Timex FDD 3" discs with several programs from the late 80's
  DK'Tronics keyboard with numeric keypad
  TS2050
  Timex TC2080 printer
  ZX LPrint III interface
  TS2050 modem
  Wafadrive

Instead of keeping everything in storage forever, I'm trying to find
out what hasn't been documented or preserved yet. We have to let
others know how these things work (or worked).

I have a TT3000, some TS1510 cartridge player (boxed) and 2 of the 4
cartridges produced for it.
Timex Terminal 3000 is a TC2048/2068 with FDD interface built-in.
For who may not know it, it have a TC SCLD, RAM, ROM, Z80A.
It still is a computer, not a keyboard. Remember, FDD3000 is a
computer with no graphical interface. It always will need a computer
to generate a video sinal.

And what about TS2090 Command Stick ??

Bruno, you wrote twice TS2050. They are not so rare.
TC2080 printer was a rebranded printer. Only thing to find out it
what was the brand of those printers.

More rare than all the TS1xxx and TS/TC2xxx is TC3256.
I only know one prototype and even so, I can't say it was really a
prototype because it was never powered up.

I have such a program. I recall it is a compiler called Time Machine
and it compiles a BASIC program into MC. It creates a block of code
that you can locate where you want and then call it when you like. I
converted several BASIC games and it made them run so fast they would
be barely playable so I would have to go back and put timing loops in
them! :-)

That was lots of fun. It reminded me of 1989 when I had an A&J Micro
stringy floppy and upgraded to a Larken system for mass storage. I
could fit pretty much everything I liked to run on a single 800k
floppy and I thought I was styling.

Hi Rod! Remember me? We exchanged a few e-mails last year, and you
told me about some items in your collection that would make me
salivate! :) I'm still interested in your surplus, but I think it
would have to wait until my Tax refund check.

@Johnny Red: Hi again. :)
A few questions for you João (which I forgot to ask by e-mail)

-The software on those TS1510 cartridges, has it been preserved as
disk images that can be loaded in emulators?
-Could you share pictures of the inside of any of those cartridges,
and pictures of the TS1510, inside and outside? Maybe we could build a
clone of both (same thing a lot of people did with the IF2).
-Do you have any pictures of the TT3000's inside board? Is the
complete FDD inside it, or just the interface part?

And yes, I wrote TS2

I meant 'TS2090' when I wrote TS2050 the second time. After so many
years of searching on eBay, I found one outside of eBay in Spain!

I will work on it. I have Portuguese magazines that promoted the FDD
all the time and they may have some relevant info. My cousin used that
printer with the Timex RS232 interface. The software was not available
until a few days ago (I sent the tape to Spain for TZXing). :)

We have to pay a visit to that person and find out. Who thinks it
should be done?

I'm sorry for going off-topic (the main topic was about the Zebra
Systems videos). But this shows there's still a lot of stuff to do, a
lot of stuff to preserve, and a lot of stuff to learn. Let's not let
these things disappear forever in storage places, basements and
attics. Let's not let these things end up in trash bins.

No as I don't have a ROM reader nor will I send my cartridges to
anywhere without me. I don't wan't to loose what I have search for
years.

I don't know how to open them without damaging it. I will not damage
such rare things.
TS1510 is easy as it have screws.

Yes, I opened it and took some pictures of it.
Keyboard is directly on the board. Chips are on the other side.
There is just the FDD interface inside, but not the interface itself.
It is all in the same board.
If you never seen a picture of a complete TT3000+FDD3000 system:
http://timex.comboios.info/timex_hi/tt3000system.jpg
That neptun monitor do not have the internal sound amplifier like the
ones sold with TC2048/2068.
I will try to add a TT3000 page on my website with pictures.

I have one donated by Jack Boatwright.
The first thing I said when I touched it was: "what Timex was
thinking when they decided for this huge thing".
You have to play with both hands with it.

I have that tape but never made a TZX or TAP.
Can you scan those magazines promoting the FDD?

He never showed will to power it up with afraid of burning it.
I think it should be powered up to see if it works, or at least read
all ROMs in it.

Look for Timachine.tzx.zip in the files area of the group, manual is
at http://hayne.net/Spectrum/HiSoftBASIC/.

I don't know. This is the only picture I know of it
http://timex.comboios.info/Timex/tc2080.jpg

I made a new page with pictures of TS1510 and the cartriges for it.

Hope you all like it.

---- I have one of those except only the circuit board, no plastic outer case. Also a few cartridges for the ZX81/TS1000. I never tried it with the 2068 as the 2068, of course, has its own cart port.

Different signals, different guide tab.
You cannot use a TS1510 cart on a 2068 without modifying it.

I think it was supposed to be the Legend for the TS2080 and we all know that it never materialized, Johnny Red found some information indicating that the Seikosha was for the TC2080.....

According to his website, it was a Seikosha SP-1000AS.

Ups.

Thanks. This one was the only one I didn't tested offline.

I always though that to make a serial port, a UART was needed.
This is done with some resistors, capacitors, transistors, diodes,
74LS and a NE555P.

NE555P Features
Timing From Microseconds to Hours
Astable or Monostable Operation
Adjustable Duty Cycle
TTL-Compatible Output Can Sink or Source up to 200 mA
